Australian Band Supports Pro-Palestinian Acts
Amy Taylor, the frontwoman of Amyl and the Sniffers, strongly rebuked what she described as the British press’s “frenzied” response to performances by Irish group Kneecap and punk-rap act Bob Vylan at the renowned festival.
Speaking through social media, she pointed to a disconnect between general public opinion, political leadership, and media coverage on the topic, a news agency reported.
Taylor’s online remarks came shortly after her previous criticism of both the British and Australian administrations, accusing them of failing to adequately support Palestinians.
During a performance on Saturday, Vylan shouted "Death, death to the IDF," referring to the Israel Defense Forces, the official designation of Israel’s military.
While not specifically naming Bob Vylan or Kneecap, law enforcement authorities in the UK mentioned they are assessing whether an official inquiry should be initiated.
The chants received sharp condemnation from the Israeli embassy in the United Kingdom, describing them as “inflammatory and hateful rhetoric.” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also denounced the statements as "appalling hate speech."
“The British media in a frenzee (sic) about Bob Vylan & Kneecap but artists all weekend at Glastonbury from pop to rock to punk to rap to DJs spoke up on stage & there were tonnes of (Palestinian) flags on every streamed set," Taylor shared via Instagram.
